Raghuveer Sahay has a very important place as a poet in Hindi language literature. He is called the poet of the ‘second octave’.





He is counted among the major poets of the latter half of the twentieth century. Raghuveer Sahay was born in Lucknow on 9 September 1929 in a middle-class family.





Raghuveer Sahay’s father Hardev Sahay was a teacher of literature, hence there was a natural literary influence on Raghuveer Sahay.





Raghuveer Sahay passed the postgraduate examination in English Literature from Lucknow University in 1951.





Raghuveer Sahay came to Delhi in 1951 and joined ‘Prateek’ magazine as assistant editor. He provided his services for Akashvani from 1953 to 1957. Later, Raghuveer Sahay became associated with the member of the supporting board of ‘Kalpana magazine.





Poet Raghuveer Sahay’s writing career started in 1946 and he was successful in getting associated with the field of journalism without any problem.




Raghuvir Sahay started serving in Delhi for ‘Dainik Navjeevan in 1949 and continued serving as editor and correspondent of ‘Dainik Navjeevan newspaper till 1951.





Raghuveer Sahay again became associated with All India Radio in 1961. In 1967, he got the opportunity to join the weekly magazine ‘Dinmaan’ and till 1962, Raghuveer Sahay continued to work as the editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine ‘Dinmaan’, then he did freelance writing work.





Raghuveer Sahay’s life partner’s name was Vimaleshwari Sahay. Raghuveer Sahay had successfully discharged the role of a writer, poet, journalist, editor as well as a translator of many languages. He had a deep knowledge of Hindi language literature and English language literature.





Raghuveer Sahay received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his work ‘Log Bhool Gaye Hai’. Raghuveer Sahay had fulfilled the responsibility of the special correspondent of the Delhi department of the newspaper ‘Navbharat Times’. Along with this, he held the post of editor-in-chief for the magazine ‘Dinmaan’ from 1969 to 1982 and did freelance writing work from 1982 to 1990. are.

In the initial period of poetry writing, poet Raghuveer Sahay created poetry using rhymes, but later in poetry writing, he created rhyme-free poetry.

‘Stairs Par Dhoop Mein’ is Raghuveer Sahay’s first poetry collection in Srijan Kala. Raghuveer Sahay became famous after ‘Doosra Saptak’ was edited by Agyeya in 1951. Raghuveer Sahay successfully translated three plays from the Hungarian language and these plays were also displayed.





Due to his association with the field of journalism, political consciousness is completely visible in Raghuveer Sahay’s poems.

In this context, Raghuveer Sahay has depicted Minister Musaddi Lal as a symbol of corruption of democracy through poetry, hence Dr. Bachchan Singh has not hesitated in calling Raghuveer Sahay a ‘political poet’.





Raghuveer Sahay is such a poet who, seeing the pitiful condition of the country, did not hesitate at all in taking the names of great leaders and politicians of the country. Regarding his education, Raghuveer Sahay’s main views are that I was moderately talented in reading and writing, he once stood first in eighth grade and stood third in BA education.






Raghuveer Sahay did an MA in English Literature in 1951 and obtained the qualification of ‘Visharad’ by passing the Hindi language literature examination.





Expressing his views about poet Raghuveer Sahay, journalist Dayanand has written that Raghuveer Sahay had done an MA in English language but eats Hindi as his bread. He was a strong speaker of Hindi and continued fighting for the Hindi language throughout his life.






Raghuveer Sahay started giving shape to his literary work in 1946. Despite being proficient in English language literature, he composed his literary world in Hindi language only.





Raghuveer Sahay has written about his education that he started his education at ‘Preparate School’ in Lucknow and got first position and took admission in ‘Eglo Bengali Inter College’ for fourth class education.

In the compositions of ‘Doosra Saptak’, the compositions of Raghuvir Sahay himself along with Bhavani Prasad Mishra, Shakuntala Mathur, Harinarayan Vyas, Shamsher Bahadur Singh, Naresh Mehta, Dharamveer Bharti have been compiled.





But the original genre of Raghuveer Sahay was the form of ‘verse’. He has an important place among the poets of ‘Second Octave’. The depiction of social consciousness in Raghuveer Sahay’s poetic works reflects his journalistic and editorial art, in which the poet has underlined the side of the common people along with the anti-social and contradictory inconsistencies through his poems.





In Raghuveer Sahay’s poems, he has been successful in realistically depicting the democratic life along with the pressures of middle-class life and appears to be standing in favor of the common people. In some of the poems of Raghuveer Sahi, various dimensions of human relationships and human suffering have been highlighted.





In which he has realistically described the pain of ‘women’s life’. Through the title ‘Girls in the Bank’, he has depicted the psychology of men and women in the poem. Raghuveer Sahay has described the poor girl very vividly in the poem ‘Chehra’ through poetry.





In his poem ‘Camera Mein Band Apaheez’, the pain of a handicapped person is expressed. Raghuveer Sahay has sarcastically said through his poetry that Governors, Chief Ministers, and MLAs come from criminals and sleep from the spared ones, which exposes the distorted face of politics.





Such a multifaceted poet Raghuveer Sahay, on 30 December 1990 in Delhi, shocked the entire literary world merged into infinity and left behind a void that is never possible to fill. Using his profound poetic writing as a medium, he attacked all the subjects. His writings remain completely relevant even today.
