The great writer of Hindi literature, litterateur Munshi Premchand was born on 31 July 1880 in Lamhi, a small village in Banaras district. His father’s name was Ajayabarai and his mother’s name was Anandi Devi. Munshi Premchand’s family belonged to the Hindu religion.

 

 

 

 

Munshi Premchand is also known by the name of Dhanpatrai but he has been fully accepted as Munshi Premchand. Munshi Premchand was born into an ordinary family. Munshi Premchand’s grandfather Gursai Rai was a Patwari and Munshi Premchand’s father Ajaibrai was working as a postmaster.

 

 

 

 

At the age of only 8 years, Munshi Premchand was deprived of the shade of his mother, that is, his mother died when Munshi Premchand was only 8 years old. Munshi Premchand’s childhood was spent in very difficult circumstances. Munshi Premchand’s father was transferred to Gorakhpur due to a government job.

 

 

 

 

After some time, his father remarried, hence Munshi Premchand was deprived of the love of his parents since childhood. Munshi Premchand’s stepmother never adopted him completely. Munshi Premchand was inclined towards the Hindi language since childhood.

 

 

 

 

Munshi Premchand used to read Hindi short novels as per his interest due to which his involvement in the Hindi language continued to increase.

 

 

 

 

He had such a strong desire to read books that to fulfill his desire to read, he even worked at a book wholesaler, which satisfied his desire to read and also changed his financial condition.

 

 

 

 

Munshi Premchand’s nature was very simple and kind. He never argued with anyone without any reason and was always ready to serve others.

 

 

 

He had complete faith in God. Seeing the financial condition of the house, he worked with a lawyer at a monthly salary of Rs 5.

 

 

 

 

Gradually he gained proficiency in every subject, which gave him benefits in the form of a job. Munshi Premchand was appointed as the headmaster of a missionary school.

 

 

 

 

Munshi Premchand was a man of courage. He continued to face every struggle of life with a smile and finally, on 8 October 1936, he departed from this worldly theater forever. No one can be a touching writer like him.

 

 

 

 

Novel Emperor Munshi Premchand’s early education started at the age of 7 in a small madrasa in his village Lamhi. During his education in Madrasa, Munshi Premchand acquired knowledge of Hindi, and Urdu education as well as some English education. Similarly, with his efforts, he gave shape to his education and was admitted to a college in Banaras for graduation, but due to financial constraints, he had to stop his studies midway.

 

 

 

 

Despite very adverse circumstances, Munshi Premchand (Dhanpat Rai) somehow completed his education till matriculation.

 

 

 

Dhanpatrai, a man of courage, did not accept defeat at any stage of his life. While studying again in 1919, he was successful in completing a BA degree and obtained a BA degree.

 

 

 

 

Dhanpat Rai has been struggling with his luck since his childhood. Dhanpat Rai could never get enough love from his family.

 

 

 

His mother also left him at the young age of 8 years. He never felt a sense of belonging from his stepmother.

 

 

 

 

Due to conservative customs, his father Ajayabaray married Dhanpatrai (Premchand) to a daughter of a rich family at the young age of 15 and was freed from his responsibilities. Although Premchand did not agree to marry.

 

 

 

 

Dhanpat Rai’s (Munshi Premchand) wife was not only ugly but had a harsh nature. After some time, Dhanpatrai’s father left him and ascended to heaven, hence the responsibility of the entire family rested on the shoulders of Dhanpatrai.

 

 

 

 

The cycle of time revolved to such a point that even after getting a job, Dhanpat Rai had to sell valuable household items to meet the family’s needs. At a young age, the entire burden of the household fell on Premchand alone.

Due to a lack of harmony with his first wife, Dhanpat Rai divorced her and after some time Dhanpat Rai married a 25-year-old widow of his choice.

 

 

 

 

The second marriage of Dhanpat Rai (Premchand) was completely successful and he got promoted day by day. Premchand (Dhanpatrai) was active in his work from the beginning. Despite adverse circumstances, he did not accept defeat and remained active in doing something or the other even till the last moment.

 

 

 

 

Along with the Hindi language, he also established his invaluable writing works in the Urdu language. After leaving his birthplace Lamhi village, Dhanpatrai (Premchand) stayed in Kanpur for four years and contacted the editor of a magazine and got many of his articles and stories published in the magazine.

 

 

 

 

Apart from this, Dhanpatrai (Premchand) composed many poems for the freedom movement. With time, Premchand’s poems, stories, articles, etc. started getting much appreciation from the public. This paved the way for Premchand’s promotion and transfer to Gorakhpur.

 

 

 

 

Premchand’s writings continued to be published from Gorakhpur. Meanwhile, Premchand also actively participated in Mahatma Gandhi’s movement. Apart from Hindi, Premchand’s novels were published in Urdu language. After consultation with his wife, Premchand decided to come to Banaras in 1921 leave the government job, and then start writing as per his interest.

 

 

 

 

After some time, Munshi Premchand tried to try his luck in the cinema world to change his writing skills and went to Bombay (Mumbai) and wrote scripts for some films, but due to the injustice of fate, those films could not be completed and Premchand He was forced to suffer losses, so he left Bombay (Mumbai) and came to Banaras.

Premchand wrote many works in various forms which everyone has been reading in Hindi language since childhood. In the same way, he has contributed many of his novels, plays, poems, stories, etc. to Hindi literature, such as Godaan, Kafan, and Gaban, and many works are available.
